“This all started so simply, just a body with so much to say…” —Linda Hogan
In this six-week Tuesday morning series we will enjoy and tap our body-felt sense as the gateway to expressing free verse and experimenting within common poetic forms. This series of gatherings is an invitation for any woman, regardless of age or faith, who feels the call to turn her listening toward the stories her body wants to speak. Playing with poetry supports the formation of fresh language patterns and invites us to become more intimate with the “unsayable” and how we sense-make the abundance of phenomena our bodies experience each day. In writing community we will sculpt sense-rich word combinations to savor our ordinary moments, our extraordinary stories.
“When the body wishes to speak, she will / reach into the night and pull back the rapture of this growing root…” —Linda Hogan
This series will be primarily based in generative free-writing activities with a small amount of guided workshop/revision opportunity. We will begin and end each session with brief guided embodied meditations for grounding and integration. Limited to 12 participants; no writing or poetry experience required.
“Every poem holds the unspeakable inside it. The unsayable... The thing that you can't really say because it's too complicated. It's too complex for us. Every poem has that silence deep in the center of it.” ― Marie Howe
